Around the Site Suggestions: Volume 2

:iconhappywaveplz: Welcome to Around the Site Suggestions! This article will be published every other Saturday and it will feature different suggestions from around the site. Suggestions will be taken from the visual suggestions gallery, the written suggestions gallery , the suggestions forum, the weekly site updates from #hq and anywhere else suggestions are posted. As well as featuring these suggestions, this article will also contain different discussion topics about different aspects of the site and how you would like to see them improved.

If you have a suggestion you would like featured in this article feel free to note me, ^Katara-Alchemist, with your suggestion and I'll include it in the next article! It doesn't even have to be yours, it can just be a cool one that you've see while browsing the site. Feel free to note me with suggestions for the discussion topic at the end as well.

Suggestions From the Site Updates

Due to the fact that the past two site updates haven't been as updatey as normal due to the staff retreat where awesome things are brewing, there's nothing for this section this time around. Be sure to check out this week's site update though, there's some awesome updates on what's going on at the staff retreat! [link]

From the Suggestions Forum

~Liggliluff Suggested a better way for groups and artists to correspond with each other.

~chaddarismyname Suggested that non premium members be able to use an older version of "advanced critique system."

From the Visual Suggestions gallery

Stickied journal entries.
Social media buttons for your page.
A deviantart version of paypal.
Remove repeat deviation messages in the inbox.

From the Written Suggestions Gallery

dA Suggestions - Groups + Gallery SkinsThese are some things that annoy me again and again. I am not sure if there have been already suggestions for this, if yes: sorry.
And to avoid spamming you with single visual suggestion i thought a combined written suggestion might be a better way this time - especially as i am too lazy to make visual suggestions for all of them :aww:
I might update this from time to time - in case i think of something new or one of the things suggested have been added.
Let me know what you think of this.
Groups
:bulletgreen: Group Comment Notification
To be able to see if someone left comments on a blog or poll in a group you always need to get back to that certain feature. While you remember doing so during the first time, i find it annoying that you don't get any notifications if said things have been published a while ago and people still leave comments or ask for help/feedback.
That's why it would be nice if such comments would appear in the message center at the groups se
Multiple suggestions about groups and gallery skins.
Message about installed journal skinThere should be a message in Activity about the event when somebody installs one of our journal skins. Same design like at faving, collecting and badge giving. Receive a notification when someone installs one of your journal skins.

Suggestions From Elsewhere on the Site

=Yamitora1 suggested: "When we write journals, we have the option to have our mood and what we ate box above or below the journal entry. I think it would be nice if we could do this with literature entries like fan fics. Sometimes Fan fics are very long and people might never get to read the artist's description. I also find that sometimes artist put important info in their artist description, info that should be read before the fic. If we had the option to move the artist description above the literature entry, then I think a lot of people would be happy."

Discuss

In this week's site update we were told that the staff were still on their retreat and they'd split into groups to work on mini-projects of their choice. One of the projects being worked on is a system for a crowd sourced way of cleaning up miscategorized deviations. Considering that the suggestions galleries are full of miscats, how would you guys feel about a system like this? To you think it would be helpful or harmful? Would you report miscats more if they were dealt with in a crowd sourced manner rather then just by the staff?

Discuss!

Thanks for reading!

Oh! ~Yamitora1's idea gave me an idea. What if you could have literature deviations be scrollable, like some journal skins are? That might be ideal, especially for particularly long ones. (I personally am a huge comments and description reader.)

That could be cool. I'll put that idea in this week's edition.

But I would say it should probably be a setting on the "Post Deviation" panel. Some, when they're shorter, I like being part of the overall page.

'a crowd sourced way of cleaning up miscats' sounds good, any way that gets it done sounds good, but if it is just to the point of 'if one person (or X people) report it it gets moved' it would not do the community much good I think. :hmm:

 It would have to be very carefully controlled, but at this point we really do need SOMETHING other then a handful of staff handling them because that obviously doesn't work very well.

I like ~Yamitora1's idea about artist's comments for literature entries having the option of being above deviation. I use 'Author Notes,' but they look clunky and out of place.
